KONFABULATOR

Nope. This is not an ad for Yahoo's recently bought product.

But I will be expressing my preference and enthusiasm regarding
the product's concept.

Konfabulator is free. Free of charge. It used to be somesort of
a -download-try-it-furst-then-register-it-app that would allow
developers and users to create their own eye-candies or system tools.
And now, after Yahoo bought it. It's now FREE!

Komfabulator devel. language is xml-based. It provides users to
code using xml and javascript, A LOT WAY EASIER THAN Mozilla's
XUL. So no more of that complicated mess of files. Perhaps
Konfab may be a little limited compared to XPCOM, but hey!
You can create cool-looking widgets in a shorter time compared
to XUL.

XUL was supposed to be an OS-indepenent GUI language, but during
my time with it, Firefox was still in its infancy, and most of the negative
comments about mozilla was that it was way too big and way too slow,
since they bundled up everything with the browser.

XUL was fun, but I believe for smaller apps. it's much better to use Konfabulator.

They even have widgets for ppl to download. So for those who are not into
developing their own stuff, you can try using the tools and "prettythings"
contributors have made.

This is their site:
http://konfabulator.com/

Konfabulator, by the way is compatible for MAC and Windows.
Im still waiting for their Linux version. Konfabulator provides somesort of
a javascript virtual machine where widgets(the little apps that u can download
and run with konfab) are given binary life. Kinda like java's VM.

For now, Im still trying to port my simulator from a python version to a konfab-version.
Currently, the current version is able to send socket-tpc-based messages to our applications
such health check messages, alarms, etc. I do hope that I will be able to use sockets in
Konfab. Or perhaps I could just make of Konfab for UI purposes, Ex: wrapping my python
simulator and creating a GUI for it.

Eye candy and nifty tools.

I'm running three konfabs: minisys, pagerank, and what to do.

I've downloaded the api and development guide too. I thought I'd give it a try.
