Our company has began to implement its own anti-software-piracy
policy... formally :D
This is in conformance to the news that there will be a crackdown
(more manly assertive term for "audit") to be initiated by the
government against software piracy.
This is not the first attempt for the company to adopt a similar
policy. The previous ones ended up as failed attempts(obviously).
I thought this was a fad too. Many of us had the opinion that it
would just fade away...
The old scenario was that during the audit period, games(licensed
or unlicensed) together with other non-project related software
were uninstalled... and after a couple of months(weeks at the least),
everything would be back to a gamer's normal day - PC games at
lunch and overtime breaks. Wheeee!
But now, it's a l'il bit different.
It's just like what the Borg stated:
Resistance is futile.
You will be assimilated
Nope. Im no trekkie. I just placed the quote there for effect.
It's now time to say goodbye to "Holy Shit", "Fire in the Hole",
"OWNING"(DOTA), etc.
So instead of those in-game sound FX, we hear another form
of "OWNING!!" FX in the background. Although, alot of the
supervisors here are fellow-gamers, some higher-ups in the
office heirarchy are playing their own brand of game - POWER
PLAY.
"Yeah! No more games! Nyahaha! Im winning this round!"
It's like there are two factions of "higher-ups" competing for
pogi-points. They're trying to push and draft policies in an effort
to "outperform" the other in a contest of "managerial" influence.
It is obvious that the anti-games(whether licensed or unlicensed)
was just an addon. The government's anti-piracy drive DID NOT
have that theme. The drive was about software licensing, not
anti-gaming. It seems, that the little snowball has gather much
bulk after rolling along their area.
It may not be that OBVIOUS to the two factions. But it's pretty
clear to some people there are some "politics" and "ego-issues"
involved. I wonder why the company did not realize that it
would be better off implementing a mandatory
"consult-ur-shrink-policy" rather than promoting two unfulfilled,
insecure men(who have been known only to be experienced in
their own playing fields - they CANT easily adapt to change) to a
position of power. that would allow them to play a higher level of who-is-the-best-teacher's-pet-game.
Oh, well. Seniority does have a big weight. But "seniority" does
not always equate to "knows better", it simply means "been here
longer".
I wonder if its worth my time to invest effort just to become a lap dog.
Sigh.
But then, these are all ramblings of a frustrated PC gamer who just
discovered his comfort bubble is about to be popped.
I am very sorry for the inconvenience that my rant may have caused.
Please disregard all that I have posted above as the mere output of a
troubled mind.
Let us all support all forms of anti-software-piracy, specially those
that prohibit the use of licensed game software during unpayed breaktime
hours.

Booooo! Screw the RIAA! Freedom! Freedom! Freedoooooom!
The policy is legit.
BUT. butt?. No! B-U-T!
The question is why now? My opinion is they they are wussies. "Ni sakay sa panahon". They've been wanting to get rid of our beloved PC games right from the start but the only thing is that they didn't have the balls to back it up. But now they can masquerade themselves with that government mandate.
